The Hobbit Movie Martin Freeman

Director Peter Jackson confirmed that Actor Martin Freeman will play as the Hobbit:

"Despite the various rumors and speculation surrounding this role, there has only ever been one Bilbo Baggins for us. There are a few times in your career when you come across an actor who you know was born to play a role, but that was the case as soon as I met Martin Freeman. He is intelligent, funny, surprising and brave - exactly like Bilbo and I feel incredibly proud to be able to announce that he is our Hobbit."

The cast of the Hobbit will also includes:

- Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield, leader of the Dwarves, whose grandfather ruled the Lonely Mountain settlement destroyed by Smaug.
- Aidan Turner and Rob Kazinsky as Kili and Fili, nephews of Thorin.
- Graham McTavish as Dwalin, blue-bearded, first to arrive at the home of Bilbo Baggins.
- John Callen as Oin, skillful fire-maker. Brother of Gloin.
- Stephen Hunter as Bombur, the fat, sleepy and slow member of Thorin’s company.
Mark Hadlow as Dori, strongest of the Dwarves, who carries Bilbo on his back at one point.
- Peter Hambleton as Gloin, brother of Oin, initially suspicious of Bilbo’s worth, but eventually convinced. Father of Gimli from The Lord of the Rings.

Hobbit by Director Guillermo del Toro

Update: Guillermo del Toro won't be directing (he get bored waiting for the productiont o start), but fear not, Director Peter Jackson is taking over!

Director Guillermo del Toro seems to be really committed to make the Hobbit movie a success.

Two movies are in store. Let's listen to del Toro to see what he is planning for the Hobbit:

He knows that he has inherited a great responsibility with the right to adapt the Hobbit to the cinema:

I really hope that his cooperation with Peter Jackson who directed the Lord of the Rings will work out. It has been a long since the last Lord of the Rings movie and so far, no movie could compare to any opus of the trilogy for it was really great.

May del Toro create a new masterpiece with the Hobbit! Any bet concerning Bilbo? Who will interpret the epic hero?

Hobbit Movie In 2011

There is no denying that the Lord of the Rings movie series has been a huge success. This success has brought interest in lesser known novels by writer J. R. R. Tolkien.

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien speaks about the beginnings of The Hobbit.
As a result the Hobbit, which is a prequel to the events happening in the Lord of the Rings, is going to be adapted to the cinema.
Actually the new movie is the second adaptation of The Hobbit: there was an animated movie in the late 1970's:

A scene from the 1977 animated version of The Hobbit(directed by Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin Jr), where the dwarven smiths are crafting their wares and all.
But this time we will have a live-action Hobbit film!

Guillermo del Toro (who brought us Hellboy) has decided to tackle the project with the help of The Lord of the Rings film trilogy director Peter Jackson who will serve as executive producer and co-writer.

The Hobbit will spawn into two movies. The first film will be a direct adaptation of the novel, while the second film will explore storylines hinted at in the book, setting up events in The Lord of the Rings.

The first Hobbit movie is expected to be released in December 2011 and the second movie the following year.

"Bilbo Baggins, a Hobbit, journeys to the Lonely Mountain accompanied by a group of dwarves to reclaim a treasure taken from them by the dragon Smaug." (Source: IMDb)
